Many subscription apps provide a built-in ‘subscribe & save’ feature that offers discounts to customers who choose a subscription. However, these features are not compatible with our integration, as they alter the product’s SRP (Suggested Retail Price) rather than simply applying a discount.
To work around this, we can create a Shopify discount code that can be applied to first-time or reoccurring subscription orders. These discount codes will be billed weekly according to our chargeback policy. See more on how to set up this unique discount code type below.
Reminder: Any changes to the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) require prior approval from the retailer. Using any app, including subscription apps, to adjust the SRP without this approval is against our guidelines and may lead to additional fees to cover any discrepancies.
Setting it up
First, you must have a subscription app installed on your Shopify store. See here for more on subscriptions with Flaviar Checkout, including compatible apps.
Step 1: Go to Discounts
Log in to your Shopify admin.
In the left-hand menu, select Discounts.
Step 2: Create a New Discount
Click on Create discount in the top right corner.
Choose Amount off products
Step 3: Configure Discount Details
Method: We recommend automatic discount to ensure it's automatically applied for all customers who qualify.
Discount Code: Enter a unique code for customers to use, like “SUBSAVE10”.
Types of Discount: Choose from options like percentage, fixed amount, or free shipping.
Example: To offer 10% off a subscription, select Percentage and enter “10” as the discount value.
Step 4: Apply Discount to Subscription Products
Under Applies to, choose Specific collections or Specific products.
Select your subscription products or collections that contain subscriptions.
Purchase Type: Subscription
Step 5: Set Eligibility Conditions
Under Customer eligibility, choose if the discount applies to all customers or specific customer groups.
Step 6: Set Usage Limits
To limit the discount to a single use per customer, check Limit to one use per customer under Usage limits.
You can also limit the total number of times the code can be used, if desired.
Recurring Payments for subscriptions:
Limit discount to the first payment: If you select this, the discount will never be applied to the customer's subsequent subscription orders, only the first one.
Limit discount to multiple recurring payments: Here you can indicate how many orders the discount should apply to (ex: subscribe & save 20% on your first 3 orders!)
Discount applies to all recurring payments: This ensures the discount is applied to all subscription payments, including the first one.
Step 7: Combinations
Indicate here if this discount can be combined with other discount types, like other product, order, or shipping discounts.
Step 8: Active Dates (optional)
Set the discount code start date and time and/or end date and time if this is a limited-time promotion.
Step 9: Save the Discount Code
Review your settings to ensure everything looks correct.
Click Save discount.
Tips for Managing Subscription Discounts
Testing: Test the discount code with a subscription product to ensure it applies correctly.
Expiration Date: Set an expiration date if you want the discount to be available for a limited time.
