Flaviar Checkout: 2024 Payment Gateway Updates

This article provides a comprehensive explanation of why Flaviar is updating its payment gateway.

Updated over 2 months ago

At Flaviar, we are committed to providing the most compliant payment gateway solution. As part of this commitment, we are excited to announce an important update to our brand's payment gateway on all Shopify stores we manage. This upgrade involves transitioning from the traditional Active Merchant payment integration to the more advanced Stripe Payment App.

Why the Change?

Stripe has long been a trusted partner in processing online payments, and Shopify has been a reliable platform for e-commerce. Historically, our payment gateway integration with Stripe was facilitated through Active Merchant, a library that provided a standardized interface for various payment gateways. However, as technology evolves, so do the needs and expectations of businesses and consumers. To stay ahead, we are adopting the latest and most efficient solutions. This includes updating all stores to Stripe's new Payment App.

The Migration Process

We understand that any change can be daunting, especially when it involves critical components like payment processing. That's why we are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible. Here's what you can expect:

  1. Stripe/Shopify are releasing the updates in batches, meaning this update may not be available to all of our partner stores at the same time. We'll know your store is ready for the upgrade once we see this alert in your Shopify store

  2. The update process only takes a few minutes and will be entirely managed by our team.

  3. Once we make the update the store owner will receive two back-to-back notifications from Shopify

    1. The first one will say your payment gateway (Stripe) has been deactivated.

    2. The second one will say Stripe Card Payments has been activated as your payment gateway.

  4. We do not expect any do expect anytime downtime on your store during the update, but we will make the update outside of the normal business hours just in case.

  5. Once Stripe Card Payments is activated, we may complete a test order to double-check payments are processing as expected.

New Features

Previously, the only quick-pay option available with the Stripe Payment Gateway was Apple Pay. Once Stripe Card Payments is activated in your store, we'll be ready to enable Google Pay as well.

Limitations

Currently, we are not aware of many limitations with Stripe's new payment processor except with subscription orders. Stripe has confirmed their new payment gateway is not yet compatible with recurring subscription orders.

If you are set up with Stripe's newest payment processing app (Stripe Card Payments) and would like to start offering subscriptions please let us know so we can find a solution for you.
